elcome to a  
of places I'd like to visit, but which for reasons of money (my shortage) and international politics (inhospitality to Americans) are beyond my probabilities. But join me for an armchair journey to six worldwide sites of particular fascination to me.
At each site, I've got a picture, the location and a brief description of the site, other Internet links for further exploration, and perhaps a couple of printed references.
I blame most of this on a work I first read in my childhood, in the
1950s:
