Six Forbidden Wonders in Far Away Places with Strange Sounding Names

[Angkor Wat]

ANGKOR
WAT

Angkor Wat is located near Siem Reap, and Tonle Sap Lake in northwest Cambodia. One can get there, but Americans are frowned upon and landmines are a problem. That's enough Forbidden for me. It's Far Away enough and is a Strange Sounding Name.

Angkor Wat is a ruin that is used for modern rituals, but is not maintained to western standards. It was a political and Hindu religious center for the Khmer kingdom about 1100, but abandoned in the early 1400's. It was "discovered" by a Frenchman in the 1800's, thoroughly overgrown. It is believed to be the largest religious structure in the world.
